Pengaruh Pembentukkan Ruang Publik Bernuansa Agama pada Alih Fungsi Gedung Bouwploeg Menteng

Abstract

Abstrak: Gedung Bouwploeg yang terletak di daerah Menteng Jakarta, dulunya diperuntukkan sebagai kantor, dan beberapa kali berganti kepemilikan. Bangunan tersebut akhirnya beralih fungsi menjadi masjid bernama Cut Meutia. Banyak faktor yang menyebabkan alih fungsi itu terjadi. Kelompok pengajian Menteng dan Yonif Yos Sudarso banyak berperan dalam alih fungsi tersebut. Untuk mengupas bagaimana proses alih fungsi itu terjadi, penulisan ini menggunakan metode pendekatan historiografi, teori konsep ruang dari Henry Lefebvre, teori ruang publik dari Jürgen Habermas, dan teori ruang Heterotopia dari Michel Foucault. Pendekatan-pendekatan tersebut akan mengungkap, apakah alih fungsi tersebut murni karena kebutuhan akan tempat ibadah di Menteng, atau ada unsur politik dari militer yang terlibat dengan memanfaatkan kelompok pengajian Menteng untuk melawan komunis.

Abstract: The Bouwploeg building, located in the Menteng area of Jakarta, was once designated as an office, and changed ownership several times. The building eventually converted into a mosque called Cut Meutia. Many factors cause the transfer of function to occur. Menteng Islamic study groups and Yonif Yos Sudarso played many roles in the transfer of functions. To explore how the process of transfer of functions took place, this paper uses the method of historiographic approach, the theory of space concepts from Henry Lefebvre, the theory of public space from Jürgen Habermas, and the theory of space Heterotopia from Michel Foucault. These approaches will reveal whether the transfer of functions is purely due to the need for places of worship in Menteng, or if there is a political element from the military involved by using the Menteng Islamic study group to fight the communists.
